I was educated at the Graham Sea Training School in Scarborough and Trinity House Navigation School in Hull prior to joining The Cunard Steamship Co. as a deepsea Navigation/ Deck Officer where my voyages on cargo/passenger ships took me worldwide , i went ashore and continued my education to obtain a Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Leeds Polytechnic.
Following employment with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) , the Admiralty Underwater Weapons Establishment , Portland (AUWE) and other defence related work I eventually gained recognition by Professional Chartered Electrical Engineering Institute qualifications MIEEIE. & IEng.
I became one of the countries youngest fully licensed radio transmitting amateurs in the UK at 14 years of age in 1974 formally Class B UK Callsign G8KFH and after passing the Morse Code test became a Full Class A Radio Amateur UK Callsign G0KGA . I am a corporate member of the Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) and AMSAT (Amateur Satellite Corporation)
Hobbies are boating of which i am to RYA Offshore Yachtmaster & Coastal Skipper standard , a full sailing member of Scarborough Yacht Club and yacht owner at Scarborough Harbour's new marina , i have owned various sea boats. We enjoy chartering yachts in the mediteranean and very recently sailed around the island of Majorca
I own and ride a Cleveland Bay X Thoroughbred Mare horse called 'Vita' and enjoy pleasure rides and hacking out . My wife has a Thoroughbred called 'Bobby' . We have our own stables and fields and are currently bringing up a very lively 4 year old filly called 'Masie' ( my horses foal)
I am also a SETI member in a worldwide space network where advanced radio experimenters look at interesting deep space radio noise , i have always had an interest in astronomy .
